COMMUNION OF DREAMS WITH NATURE AND CULTURE
Aida Bergsen first met the art of sculpture in 1990, at the studio of İrfan Korkmazlar and later continued her studies in figurative sculpture at the studio of Ümit Öztürk. Experimenting with techniques distinct from those at the workshops and courses at Central Saint Martin College of Art and Design, which she had attended, Bergsen strengthened her dialogue with the material and later pursued her studies at the jewellery studio of Mehmet Kabaş. Her “communion of dreams” with bronze revealed a new horizon where jewellery design met sculpture. Eventually, the borders between sculpture and jewellery design as a means of expression and a way of life dissolved. Considering humans the juncture between jewellery and sculpture, Aida Bergsen developed the concept of “body sculptures”.
